Gift-Giving to Lae PWDs

Service Project Reports

In the true spirit of the holiday season, our Rotary Club of Lae Huon Gulf came together for a heartwarming gift-giving event to support people with disabilities (PWDs) in Lae. This special initiative, which took place in December 2020, was an opportunity to spread joy, kindness, and hope to those in our community who are often overlooked. We are proud to continue our commitment to serving all members of our community, regardless of their circumstances, and we look forward to even more opportunities to make a difference in the lives of Lae’s PWDs in the future.

Visit to the Yambo Elementary and Junior Schools

Service Project Reports

On a recent Rotary trip to the Yambo elementary and Junior schools by a number of members with a twofold purpose of inspecting the results of the combined work done with the community of the school and a meaningful discussion on the way forward in our support of the school. The work completed has been the supply of desks and the materials for the creation of floors for the various classrooms. The work on the floors had been done to a high standard and should enable them to be operated for a fair number of years and the school children were enjoying the 25 desks and 2 two teacher tables that had been provided. The rotary members then sat down with the school governors, the school principal and teachers to discuss what future assistance was required. The members were very keen to fund a joint initiative with the parents for the supply of text books and teaching materials for the staff to enable the standard of education to the children to be improved. The members are still very puzzled by the Educations Departments lack of support (no funds had been received) in terms of an operating budget. The hospitality of the community was a greatly appreciated and as always exceeded most of our expectations.
